Roku HD Player Review

First of all – reviews of other site with navigation slow. If you take the option of delivery, keep this in mind – and it took me almost two weeks to manifest itself, and though I expected to slow shipment thank you comments here I am starting to get impatient waiting. If you buy this as a gift or need before a specified date, pay more for faster shipping, unless you have three or more weeks of waiting.

The box itself is very simple to connect and getinstallation. I have a cable Internet connection, so there is no need to fiddle with the radio. It took me less than 15 minutes to configure and start looking at something – and the only reason it took a long time ago because I was BBQing steaks at once and was running back and forth between the grill and entertainment center.

For me, the image quality is very good. The only time the image quality fell on me was when I had problems with the Internet, which was only acouple of times. Based on my experiences, the faster and more stable your internet connection is, the happier you’ll be with picture quality. I’d say it’s comparable to my satellite in most cases – and with less disruption to my picture during bad weather.

I’ve only used it with netflix, pandora and facebook photos. Be sure you’re happy with the content Netflix provides as instant before you purchase – there is a lot there, but most of it’s older. There is a huge selection of programs for children – my 6 years is always asking: “Let’s look at Roku! because it gives you a better choice at a time that the satellite. Amazon Video On Demand has more choice, but for most things I looked on Amazon, I’d rather pay a little extra and buy the DVD.

I bought my Roku, but I have a couple of weeks before the release of additional channels like Pandora and Facebook photos. The upgrade went well, and the addition of an account of Pandora waseasy. I thought it was a good value, first the additional channels is even better now.

My only complaint at this stage is that the fast forward / rewind controls take some getting used to. I wish it were more like my DVR with the 30 sec skip forward and skip 6 seconds late, but I think I used it, it will not be so bad.

Overall, I think this box is a great value – if you have the support network and broadband. Works well to my businessclass cable with a wired connection. One of my friends has, and works well on its DSL – DSL, but has improved since working for the telephone company. Not sure if this will work on the parents of my microwave broadband any more than I rely on a wireless network to use it – my wireless network can sometimes be shaky.

If you have doubts about your Internet speed, I recommend you find a friend or family member who has one and see if you can try for somehours to get a feel for it. This is what I do for my parents – my box to get to their house the next time we visit – I doubt it will work there too, though.
